3D hydro: Lorentz Factor

This movie is constructed from an intermediate-resolution 3D hydrodynamical simulation of a relativistic GRB jet propagating through a massive compact progenitor star. The stellar progenitor is model 16TI from Woosley & Heger 2006. The jet has a constant luminosity L=5x1050 erg/s and a limiting Lorentz factor Γ=400. It is injected at a distance of 109 cm from the center of the star with an opening angle &theta0=10o and a Lorentz factor Γ0=5. The movie shows isocontours of the Lorentz factor, with the highest Lorentz factor in red and the lowest in blue. The movie is initially showing only the inner part of the star. When the jet approaches the stellar surface, the movie stops and zooms out and starts again. The visualizations were performed by D. Lazzati with Visit. The simulations were performed by B. Morsony, D. López-Cámara, D. Lazzati, and M. Begelman with the code FLASH on NCSA and NASA supercomputers.
